Alternator stopped doing its job. These folks took my car in without question and had it ready to go by the end of the day. Very professional, organised and friendly. Thank you for your efforts! Highly recommended.

Been coming here for years, always do a brilliant job and nearly always in the same day, no matter what needs doing. Great customer service throughout. Would recommend SCS to anybody.

Riverview Car Sales

Church Road, 1st Entrance On Left After Church On Left, Gravesend DA13 9AR, UK – 01474 815958

We can't praise enough the fantastic service received from Stuart and Ian at Riverview Car Sales. We wanted to buy our first van for our new business and had read excellent reviews about this company which made us confident that we would get good service and advice. We weren't disappointed, there was no sales pressure and we were encouraged to look at the vans in our own time accompanied by a nice cuppa provided by Ian. With advice we selected a vehicle which the guys were happy to modify to our requirements. We picked the Caddy up today and couldn't be happier with our purchase and the excellent service received. We would certainly have no hesitation in recommending this company to family and friends. Many thanks Stuart and Ian.

My business partner and I went to choose a vehicle a couple of weeks ago and successfully purchased the perfect van for our new business. For any woman who is like me and hates the hard sell of most car dealerships then these guys couldn't be further from that stereotype. Nice relaxed no pressure experience and very smooth transaction from start to finish. Highly recommend this company. Thanks guys.

DW Leisure Mercedes Benz Gravesend Independent Specialist

153 Vale Rd, Northfleet, Gravesend DA11 8BX, UK – 01474 564494

Right from the start when I entered the showroom the experience was excellent. There was no hard sell and I felt comfortable looking at the vehicle I had chosen taking my time and having all my questions answered informatively, politely, professionally and in a friendly manner. A test drive was easy to arrange and I was not pressured for time at all. The part exchange was also a breeze and my new car was delivered by David Junior and he spent plenty of time giving me advice and showing me all the necessary functions of my vehicle. I am so happy with my new car and the experience I have had with DW Leisure has made this all the better. I will certainly recommend DW Leisure to family, colleagues and friends. It’s an exceptional dealership.

David junior waited for us on a Sunday and We were able to test drive the car. Conducted a full B service and found the front brakes and disk to be a little worn so he replaced them both for free to ensure full peace of mind. Not pushy and honest and patient throughout the whole sale process and very happy with our purchase! Highly recommended!

What are you rights when your buy a used car?
The Citizen's Advice Bureau have an excellent and comprehensive section on their website. If you find something wrong after purchasing a used car It’s worth knowing that you’ll still have legal rights even if you don’t do the proper checks. If there’s something wrong with your used car you may have a legal right to a repair or some or all of your money back.

Make sure a trader is trustworthy
If you’re buying from a trader look for an established firm with links to trade associations like the Retail Motor Industry Federation or a sign that says they follow The Motor Ombudsman's code of practice look for a trader with cars inspected by an independent engineer or motoring organisations.

Buying from an auction
Auctions are the riskiest way of buying a used car as you probably won’t have the legal protection that you have buying through a trader. Ensure that you read the auction house’s T and Cs before buying a car.

Check a car’s history

Check the car’s details with the DVLA
  • Ask the seller for the car’s registration number
  • MOT test number
  • mileage
  • make and model
Use the DVLA’s free online vehicle information checker to make sure what the seller tells you matches the DVLA’s records.

Check the MOT and history
You should check that MOT tests have been done regularly throughout the car’s history. Check this on GOV.UK. This is a free service.

Get a private history check.
These will cost up to £20 – but they can be worth it! This will give you valuable information about serious problems the car might have including if:
the car has been stolen
the seller still owes money on the car
the car has been in a serious accident
the car is showing the correct mileage
the car has been written off

Inspect the car and take a test drive
You should arrange to view the car in daylight, preferably when it’s dry - it’s harder to spot damage to the car if it’s wet. It’s a good idea to meet at a private seller’s house so that if something goes wrong after you’ve bought the car, you’ll have a record of their address.

The AA has a useful checklist for what to look out for when inspecting a used car and its paperwork. Make sure you ask about the car’s service history.

Always take the car for a test drive.
Drive for at least 15 minutes on different types of road. The AA has a checklist for what to look out for when taking a test drive. If you’re still not sure - get an independent report
However, you can go a step further and get an independent report on the car. This will give you detailed information about the car’s condition and will cost around £100 to £200 an are available from motoring organisations like the AA
